Chestnut Hill

Newton Corner

Quiet corner on the Charles River. Newton Corner is located in between the Charles River, the Newton Commonwealth Golf Course, and the Boston College Law School Campus. Historic homes and modern apartment communities are dotted with humble neighborhood parks, while the more lively social scene can be found on the northern edge along I-90. Here, you can watch the game at Buff’s Pub, have a beer at Hopsters, or gorge on gourmet pizza at Max & Leo’s.

Newton Highlands

A historic-modern Newton combo. The historic heart of Newton Highlands is centered around Lincoln and Walnut Streets, where you can find the Bread & Chocolate Bakery Cafe, the 51 Lincoln farm-to-fork eatery, and the most beautiful hand-crafted coffee creations you have ever seen at Fleck. Queen Anne and Colonial Revival homes from the late 1800’s line the streets in this part of the village, however you can also find new luxury apartments complete with state-of-the-art fitness centers and heated pools.

Newton Lower Falls

A peaceful Newton enclave. Newton Lower Falls is a laid-back residential village located along the banks of the Charles River. On this part of the river, you’ll find some beautiful waterfalls, as well as a series of three small dams with “fish ladders” located along the drop. In the center of the village is a community center with some gorgeous green soccer fields, and along grove street you can see many houses listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Newton Upper Falls

Cul-de-sacs, greenways, parks, playgrounds and a speakeasy. Newton Upper Falls is full of local treasures. You can take the historic Echo Bridge across the river to hike through old forestland at Hemlock Gorge Reservation. The kiddos can take the Upper Falls Greenway all the way to the river, or cut through the tree-lined neighborhood streets to Upper Falls Playground. For the 21+ crowd, there is the Biltmore Bar, housed in a former speakeasy.

Newtonville

Tiger Pride. Newtonville is centered around Newton North High School, which means that this is Tiger country. Outside the world of north-south Newton High School rivalries, Newtonville neighbors enjoy lovely, walkable streets and trails, shaded sidewalks, the gorgeous Bulloughs Pond, and quick access to Boston College and Newton Center.

Nonantum

Aka “Silver Lake” or “The Lake”. Although there is no longer a lake in this Newton village, the language of the lake has lived on. With words like mush (guy), pissa (awesome), and dikki ki dotti (unbelievable), this local dialect is an interesting mix of italian, gypsy and carny slang. Old timers at the West Street Tavern and Tommy Doyles, as well as students at Newton North High School continue to use Lake Talk to this day.

Oak Hill

Newton south side soul. Oak Hill’s interesting village character may be due to the fact that it is surrounded by forests and cemeteries. Around the western, southern and eastern edges, you can explore the wooded areas of Nahanton Park, Millennium Park, Brook Farm, Hancock Woods, the Baker Street Jewish Cemeteries and Saint Josephs Cemetery. In the center of the village is the Charles River Country Club, and to the north is New South High School (Go Lions!).

Thompsonville

The smallest Newton Village. Thompsonville is a tiny slice of Newton located between Newton Centre and Chestnut Hill. It is the only area without its own village square, but you’ll be able to take a very scenic walking path up to Town Centre, or stroll down to the upscale shops of Chestnut Hill in no time.

Waban

A country club corner. Waban is an affluent country club village surrounded by the Woodland Golf Club, the Brae Burn Country Club and the expansive Coldspring Park, which features woodsy walking paths, athletic fields and a dog park. West Newton

Art, food and cultural hub. West Newton is a local classic, with historic homes and a downtown square featuring a variety of international eats, pubs and entertainment.
